The Swara Laya Academy, a prominent music institution, is spearheading this initiative. They are located at 123 Raga Street, Chennai. Classes will be held every Saturday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, starting July 8th, 2024.
These beginner lessons cover foundational elements such as swaras (notes), ragas (melodic frameworks), and talas (rhythmic cycles). Students will learn basic vocal exercises and simple compositions to build a solid understanding of Carnatic music principles. The curriculum is structured to be accessible and engaging for complete beginners.
What Will You Learn?
Participants will gain a strong foundation in the core concepts of Carnatic music. This includes understanding the 22 shruti system. Students will also learn to identify and sing basic ragas like Mayamalavagowla.
Emphasis will also be placed on developing proper vocal techniques and rhythmic accuracy. The course will also cover introductory lessons on the tambura and its importance in Carnatic music.

The lessons will be led by Smt. Lakshmi Narayanan, a seasoned Carnatic vocalist and educator. Smt. Narayanan has over 20 years of experience teaching Carnatic music to students of all ages.
