Okay, let's talk American Horror Story: Coven. Specifically, the Axeman. And not the actual axe-wielding maniac, but the dreamy version we got on screen.

I have some…feelings. Unpopular opinions, perhaps. Prepare yourselves.

The Axeman: Delicious or Disappointing?

First things first, Danny Huston. He's a fantastic actor, no doubt. He oozes charisma, even when playing a murderous ghost from the 1920s.

But was he the right choice for the Axeman? That's where my brain starts to short circuit. I mean, he played the role well. But something just felt...off.

The Romance Angle: A Swing and a Miss?

The show tried to make us believe in his love for Fiona Goode (played by the iconic Jessica Lange). And that’s a big ask, isn’t it?

Don't get me wrong, Lange could have chemistry with a brick wall. Still, I never fully bought the romance. It felt forced, a bit like a plot device more than a genuine connection.

Maybe it was the age difference. Or perhaps it was the fact that he, you know, murdered a bunch of people. Hard to overlook that on a first date!

My Unpopular Opinion: He Was Too Nice!

Here's the kicker. My real issue with the Axeman is that he was…too charming? Too polished?

He was supposed to be a brutal killer. A creature of the shadows. Instead, he felt like a guest star on a period drama.

I wanted gritty. I wanted terrifying. I wanted someone who genuinely scared me. Danny Huston gave me…slightly irritated gentleman.

Look, I appreciate a well-dressed villain as much as the next person. But the Axeman felt like he belonged at a fancy cocktail party, not stalking the streets of New Orleans.

The Missed Potential: Give Us the Grime!

Think about it. The 1920s were a time of speakeasies and raw energy. The real Axeman was a terrifying figure. He instilled real fear.

The show could have leaned into that. They could have made him truly monstrous, a visceral representation of the era's darker side.

Instead, we got a suave ghost who enjoyed jazz. A missed opportunity, in my humble opinion.

Imagine if they had cast someone like Michael Shannon in the role. Now that would have been terrifying. That would have been unforgettable.

Or even someone like Walton Goggins, that would have given the audience a wild, gritty performance.

Still Entertaining, Though!

Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoyed Coven. It's American Horror Story, after all. It's supposed to be campy and over-the-top.

But the Axeman felt like a weak link. A character with so much potential, ultimately squandered.

So, that's my take. Feel free to disagree! Maybe you loved Danny Huston as the Axeman. Maybe you thought the romance was believable.

That's the beauty of American Horror Story, isn't it? There's something to love (or hate) for everyone.

But for me, the Axeman remains one of the show's biggest "what ifs." A haunting figure, indeed, but for all the wrong reasons.
