Baki The Grappler Season 1 Episode 24

Baki: Remember That One Episode? (Yeah, THAT One)
Okay, let's talk about Baki the Grappler. Specifically, Season 1, Episode 24. "Beyond the Limits." Sounds epic, right? Well...
It was... something. Like, a lot of something. A whole buffet of over-the-topness.
The Olfactory Offense
First off, Shinogi Kousho. The man's sense of smell. I mean, come on! He can smell your internal organs?
That's not just superhuman; it's bordering on 'wait, did I accidentally watch a superhero show?' territory. And maybe it's just me, but I found it kinda gross.
Unpopular opinion time: I think Kousho's whole deal was a bit silly. He was built up as this crazy powerful dude, but really just had a super nose.
Baki's Brain is a Battlefield
Then there's Baki. He's fighting... himself? Inside his own brain?
Look, I appreciate a good metaphorical fight as much as the next person. But this felt like the writers just threw a dart at a board of ideas and hoped it stuck.
I get that they were trying to show Baki pushing past his limits. But a mental cage match felt a little... much.
The Razor-Sharp Reality
And Katsumi Orochi using his Razor Hand. Again, the guy can slice people with his bare hand.
I understand that he is supposed to be skillful. But this is literally a razor sharp hand.
Did anyone else think that was ridiculously overpowered? I mean, seriously, where's the challenge when you can just... slice and dice?
The "Training" Montage That Wasn't
We got a "training" montage. Except it wasn't really training. It was more like flexing muscles and yelling really loudly.
I mean, I love a good training montage as much as anyone, but this one was a bit...lacking. And weird.
Just a bunch of dudes looking angry and posing. Is that all it takes to become a super-grappler? I'm starting to think I've been doing it wrong this whole time.
The Fight Itself? Eh...
The actual fight between Baki and Kousho was... fine. Nothing groundbreaking. Plenty of yelling and punching, of course.
But after all the build-up and weird sensory stuff, it felt a bit anticlimactic. Like, all that smelling for this?
Honestly, I was more entertained by the commentary. Those guys are always so serious about the silliest stuff.
So, Overall?
Look, I love Baki. The entire series is ridiculous and over-the-top, which is why it's so much fun.
But Episode 24 felt like it went a little too far into "What were they thinking?" territory. It was a bit too absurd for my taste.
Maybe I'm alone on this. Maybe everyone else thought it was a masterpiece. But for me, it's one of the weaker episodes of the first season. Sue me!
Still, I'll keep watching. Because even a "bad" episode of Baki is still more entertaining than most things on TV. Just... maybe skip the part with the smelling.
