Let's be honest. We've all spent way too much time playing Call of Duty: Black Ops. Especially that zombie mode. Right?

And within zombie mode...there's Ascension. Now, hear me out.

I know what you're thinking. "Ascension? Really?" But I'm about to drop a truth bomb.

Ascension is the best Black Ops 1 zombie map. There, I said it!

Don't get me wrong, Kino der Toten is a classic. Five is... well, Five exists. But Ascension? It's just perfect.

The training spot at the lunar lander. Chef's kiss. It's like they designed it specifically for my running-in-circles-while-panicking playstyle.

Why Ascension Reigns Supreme

First, the Thundergun. Need I say more? It's basically a vacuum cleaner that sucks up zombies and then explodes them. Pure poetry.

Plus, it's pretty easy to get. Which is great for those of us (me) who aren't exactly zombie-slaying pros.

Then there's the space monkeys. Yes, they steal your perks. Yes, it's annoying. But it's also hilarious.

I mean, come on. Space monkeys! How can you not love to hate them? It adds a little chaos, a little spice to the zombie-killing stew.

The Ziplines: A Love Story

Let's talk transportation. Ascension has those awesome ziplines.

Zipping around the map while hordes of undead try to claw at you? Thrilling!

It's way more fun than running through the same old hallways over and over again. Sorry, Kino.

And who can forget the mystery box? So many memories spent desperately gambling for a ray gun. Usually ending up with a ballistic knife, of course.

That's just part of the fun, the sheer and unadulterated *frustration* of hoping for a good gun!

It's All About the Memories

Maybe it's nostalgia talking. Maybe I'm just biased because Ascension was the first map I actually got good at. (Relatively speaking, anyway.)

But I remember countless nights with friends, huddled around a TV, screaming at each other to revive someone before they got swarmed. Good times, man.

Ascension just felt...right. The atmosphere, the layout, the ridiculousness of it all. It all added up to something special.

I know this is a controversial opinion. People have their favorite maps. And that's cool.

But if you haven't revisited Ascension in a while, maybe give it another shot. You might be surprised.
