Divinity Original Sin 2 Optimal Party Composition

Forget the Min-Maxing! My *Wildly* Ineffective, Yet Hilariously Fun, DOS2 Party
Okay, let's be honest. We've all been there. Staring at character creation in Divinity: Original Sin 2, paralyzed by the sheer number of builds.
Do I need a dedicated mage? A sword-and-shield tank? Is a rogue *really* necessary? The pressure is immense!
Well, I'm here to tell you to ditch the spreadsheets. Toss those optimized builds into the fiery abyss. Embrace the chaos!
The "Oh Gods, What Have I Done?" Party
My optimal (cough, cough) party isn't about crushing every encounter with ruthless efficiency. It's about laughing until my sides hurt.
It's about watching my meticulously crafted plans crumble into a pile of exploding barrels and unexpected polymorphs.
So, what does this glorious train wreck of a party look like?
First, we have Ifan Ben-Mezd. Not as a ranger, mind you! I made him a pyromaniac mage. Because why not?
He mostly sets things on fire. Sometimes on purpose. Often, accidentally.
Next up is Lohse. Normally a powerful Enchanter, right? Nope! Two-handed warrior all the way.
She charges into battle swinging a massive axe. It's surprisingly effective... sometimes.
Then there's Fane. Forget necromancy. He's a rogue... who specializes in persuasion. I know, I know, it makes no sense.
He mostly just tries to talk our way out of fights. This usually fails spectacularly.
Finally, we have my custom character. I call her Agnes the... Geomancer.
She likes to play support, casting healing and armor spells. Mostly for herself, because everyone else is usually engulfed in flames.
Why This Is Actually (Sort Of) Brilliant
Look, I'm not going to pretend this is the most effective party. It's definitely not.
But it's *fun*. In a "my house is on fire, but I'm laughing anyway" kind of way.
Plus, it forces you to think outside the box. You can't rely on brute force tactics. You have to get creative (or just really, really lucky).
For instance, remember that time Ifan accidentally set the entire fort on fire while trying to cast Haste?
We didn't win that fight. But we *did* create a distraction so Fane could pickpocket the merchant.
And that's what truly optimal party composition is all about: making memories. Even if those memories involve a lot of screaming and reloading.
My Unpopular Opinion?
My unpopular opinion is this: ditch the meta. Play what you find fun.
Experiment with weird builds. Embrace the chaos. Make your own mistakes.
After all, Divinity: Original Sin 2 is a game. It's meant to be enjoyed.
So go forth, brave adventurer! Create your own ridiculously ineffective party.
And remember, the only truly optimal build is the one that makes you smile.
Even when everything is going horribly wrong. Which, let's be honest, is pretty much all the time.
