Finally Watching Battle of Gods? Prepare for... Opinions!
Okay, so I finally got around to watching Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. You know, the one that started it all. The whole modern Dragon Ball renaissance.
Did I love it? Did I hate it? Well, buckle up, because my feelings are... complicated. Prepare for some potentially unpopular opinions!
The Good Stuff: Gods and Transformations!
First things first, Beerus is fantastic. A total lazy, food-obsessed destroyer. What's not to love?
His dynamic with Whis is comedy gold. The nonchalant mentor thing really works.
And let's be honest, Super Saiyan God was hype! The red hair? The flame-like aura? Epic.
Seeing Goku actually struggle against someone was refreshing. It’s good to know there are powerful enemies in the universe.
The... Less Good Stuff: The Pacing!
Here's where I start to get a little controversial. The pacing felt... off. Anyone else feel that way?
It felt like they spent a *lot* of time on the party. Birthday parties are a big deal in Dragon Ball!
I know it was supposed to be funny, but honestly, it dragged a bit for me. Am I alone in this?
That bingo game though! That was comedy gold with everyone trying to get the dragon balls. Vegeta singing and dancing was hilarious!
The Vegeta Conundrum
Speaking of Vegeta, his character in this movie is… interesting. He goes full-on slapstick to appease Beerus.
Is it funny? Absolutely. Is it… in character? Debatable. I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about it.
I mean, Prince of all Saiyans groveling for a god of destruction? It's a tough pill to swallow.
The Animation... It Aged Okay
Look, I know it came out in 2013. But the animation... It hasn't aged perfectly. Especially during some of the fight scenes. We see you CGI!
It's not *bad*, but it's definitely noticeable compared to the newer stuff. Dragon Ball Super: Broly set the bar high. Too high?
Is It Worth Streaming Today?
Despite my nitpicks, absolutely! Battle of Gods is still a landmark movie.
It reintroduced Dragon Ball to a whole new generation. And gave us some fantastic new characters.
It's definitely a fun watch, even with its flaws. Besides, it's essential viewing before diving into Dragon Ball Super.
Just be prepared for some party scenes and a slightly different Vegeta. You have been warned!
"But wait, there's more! Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan is on the horizon!"
Seriously, if you're a Dragon Ball fan, you need to see it. If not, I suggest you become a fan.
