Fallout 4 Is The Brotherhood Of Steel Evil

Okay, let's talk about something a little controversial. Something that might get me chased by guys in power armor. Are the Brotherhood of Steel in Fallout 4 actually the bad guys? I know, I know, hear me out!
Shiny Armor, Shady Business
At first glance, they seem like heroes. Walking around in their super cool T-60 power armor. Talking about technology and saving humanity. But scratch the surface and things get... complicated.
Think about it. They waltz into the Commonwealth, guns blazing. Claiming everything is theirs now. Is that really the best way to make friends?
It's like showing up to a potluck and announcing you're taking all the food. Not cool, Brotherhood. Not cool.
Hoarding Tech Like Dragons
The Brotherhood's main goal is to collect and control advanced technology. They believe only they can be trusted with it. Sounds noble-ish, right?
But consider what that really means. They confiscate technology from anyone they deem "unworthy". Even if it's helping people!
Imagine some poor farmer using a modified tractor to survive. The Brotherhood shows up, takes it away, and says "For the good of humanity!" That farmer's going to be eating radroach stew for dinner.
Ad Victoriam... or Ad Dictatoriam?
Their motto is "Ad Victoriam!" Victory at all costs. But what are they really winning? And at whose expense?
They treat anyone not in their ranks as expendable. Synths, ghouls, even perfectly normal settlers. To them, they're all threats to be eliminated.
It's a pretty black-and-white view of the world. And the world of Fallout is anything but black and white, am I right?
The Railroad vs. The Brotherhood: A Thought Experiment
Let's compare them to the Railroad. Sure, they're secretive and maybe a little too obsessed with synths. But they're trying to help people (or, well, synths) gain freedom.
The Brotherhood is forcing their will on everyone. The Railroad is offering a choice, however complicated. Which sounds more heroic to you?
I’m just saying, the Railroad are clearly better dressed, and they have a better cause.
Elder Maxson: More Like Elder Mean-son
And then there's Elder Maxson. He's charismatic, sure. But he's also a bit of a control freak. He runs the Brotherhood with an iron fist.
Questioning his authority is a big no-no. Following orders without thinking is the name of the game. Is that really freedom?
He gives off serious dictator vibes, you know? Power hungry, and ruthless.
But... Power Armor Is Cool, Though
Okay, I'll admit it. The power armor is amazing. And blowing up super mutants with a gatling laser is undeniably fun.
But cool toys don't excuse questionable behavior. Just because they have the coolest tech doesn't mean they're the good guys.
Remember, even the coolest car can drive you off a cliff. So, maybe we should think twice before joining the Brotherhood of Steel.
So, Evil? Maybe Not Entirely... But Close
Are they *evil* evil? Maybe not. But they're definitely not the shining beacons of hope they pretend to be. They're more like a technologically advanced, heavily armed police state.
They're driven by ideology, and in the Fallout world, ideology is a dangerous thing. Especially when it comes with a suit of power armor.
So, next time you see a member of the Brotherhood stomping around, ask yourself: are they really here to help? Or are they just here to take over? You might be surprised by the answer.
