Fly Me To The Moon Manga Volume 1

Okay, let's talk about Fly Me To The Moon Volume 1. You know, that manga everyone seems to adore? Don’t get me wrong, it's cute. But I have some *thoughts*.
The Premise: A Love Story...Or Is It?
So, Nasa Yuzaki, a super smart dude, gets hit by a truck. Standard manga stuff, right? Then, a mysterious girl, Tsukasa Tsukuyomi, saves him.
He immediately proposes. Like, seconds after almost dying. Maybe the truck hit him harder than we thought.
And she says yes... under one condition. They only get married if he's willing to marry her. This is where I started raising an eyebrow.
My (Slightly) Unpopular Opinion
Hear me out. Isn't it all a tad... rushed? I get it, love at first sight and all that. But proposing after a near-death experience seems more like trauma bonding than true love.
Tsukasa is lovely, no doubt. She's beautiful, serene, and a little bit mysterious. But is her character a bit... flat in this first volume?
She agrees to marriage pretty easily. It feels like she's got some big secret that we're not privy to. I am intreguied.
The Humor: Hit or Miss?
Fly Me To The Moon is supposed to be funny, right? There are some moments that made me chuckle. But mostly I just felt a bit confused.
Nasa's reactions are over the top. This is a common theme in manga, I know. But sometimes it feels like he's just yelling for the sake of yelling.
The whole "genius falling for a mysterious girl" trope is familiar. It's been done a million times. I wish the manga had more originality in the humor.
Nasa: Genius or Just...Naive?
Nasa is supposed to be a genius, but his actions often contradict that. He does some very questionable decision. Is he truly a genius, or just someone who aced all of his tests?
He seems to accept everything Tsukasa says without question. I respect the trust, but sometimes I wish he'd ask "Why?" more often.
He's like a puppy following his owner around. I am sure their relationship will develop. Hopefully, Nasa will become more proactive.
The Art: Undeniably Pretty
Okay, I can't complain about the art. Hata Kenjiro (Hayate the Combat Butler) knows how to draw. Everything looks clean and polished.
Tsukasa is gorgeous. Her design is simple but effective. The backgrounds are detailed and atmospheric.
Visually, Fly Me To The Moon is a treat. It's easy on the eyes and enjoyable to look at. It is also very detailed.
Final Thoughts (For Now)
Fly Me To The Moon Volume 1 is not bad. It's just not the masterpiece everyone claims it to be, in my opinion. I am going to read more to see how the story develops.
I am curious to see where the story goes. Hopefully, the characters will become more fleshed out and the plot will thicken.
Maybe, just maybe, I will become a fan. But for now, I remain a cautious observer. Don't hate me!
