Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 700 Jumps Scene

Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 700 Jumps Scene

Okay, let's talk about something potentially controversial. Something that might make some of you Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 fans clutch your pearls. I'm talking about the 700 jumps scene.

You know the one. The ridiculously long, visually chaotic, slightly nausea-inducing hyperspace sequence? The one where Rocket pilots the ship through… well, a whole bunch of jumps?

Was it *too* much?

Don’t get me wrong. The visuals are undeniably impressive. The colors are vibrant. The ever-changing landscapes are creative.

But…did it drag? Maybe a little. Just a teensy, weensy bit. Like, seven-hundred-jumps-worth-of-a-bit?

I feel like I’m admitting a terrible secret here. Like I’m confessing to liking pineapple on pizza (I don't, promise!). Saying something negative about a beloved Guardians movie feels like a crime.

The Visual Feast vs. The Plot

Look, I get the intention. It's supposed to be a spectacle. A way to show how desperate they are, how far they're willing to go to escape Ego.

And it works on a purely visual level. It really does. But at some point, my brain just kind of... checked out. All those flashing lights... it became sensory overload!

I started thinking about what I was going to have for dinner. Or whether my socks matched. Important stuff, you know?

It’s like when you’re watching a magic show. The first few tricks are amazing. By the tenth, you’re just waiting for the magician to pull a rabbit out of a hat. Again.

Maybe I'm Just Getting Old

Perhaps my tolerance for flashy visual effects has diminished with age. Maybe I need a nap more often than I realize.

Or maybe, just maybe, the scene could have been trimmed down. Cut in half, even. Maybe 350 jumps would have conveyed the same sense of urgency without making me feel like I was trapped inside a kaleidoscope.

Think about it. Would the movie have suffered? Would the overall story have been any less impactful?

I dare say, no. It might have even improved the pacing.

What Was Happening Anyway?

Honestly, after the first few jumps, I lost track of *why* they were jumping. Was it to outrun the Sovereign? To confuse Ego? Was there any actual strategy involved, or were they just randomly hitting buttons?

I’m pretty sure Rocket was just messing with everyone at some point. He does have a habit of pushing people’s buttons (literally and figuratively).

“Okay, everyone hold on! This next jump involves sentient cheese planets! Prepare for dairy domination!” - Rocket (probably)

See? He'd totally say something like that.

The Unpopular Opinion Zone

So, here it is. My unpopular opinion: the 700 jumps scene in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was too long. It was visually impressive, but ultimately a bit much.

Flame me if you must. Tell me I’m wrong. But I stand by my slightly heretical statement.

Maybe I'll feel differently on my next rewatch. But right now, I'm sticking to my guns (or, you know, my slightly-critical-movie-watching glasses).

What do you think? Am I completely off base? Let me know in the comments! (Just be nice, please. My fragile ego can't handle too much negativity.)
