Our main character, Hiiragi Utena, is, to put it mildly, obsessed with magical girls. Like, she breathes, eats, and dreams about them. If magical girls were a boy band, she'd have the lifetime platinum VIP access package. I felt her SO HARD on this.
But then, plot twist! She gets recruited to be a magical girl herself... but, like, not in the way you think. Instead of fighting monsters, she *becomes* one. I choked on my popcorn, I kid you not. This is the best thing that could have happened.
Her transformation sequence? Chef's kiss. The outfit is amazing, and the theme song? I've already added it to my "getting ready to conquer the world" playlist.
The Villains: So Bad, They're Good (Maybe?)
The other baddies are just as ridiculously amazing. They have such an old school villain vibes. I'm here for it.
The dynamic between Utena (now Magia Baiser) and the other magical girls is already comedic gold. She genuinely just wants to admire them, and their reactions to her… *unique* methods are priceless. Like, imagine someone giving you a compliment while simultaneously trying to steal your lunch. It's that level of awkward and hilarious.
