Decade Day looms. You know, that themed dress-up day that either fills you with glee or absolute dread. Maybe both! Let's be honest, choosing an era can be tricky.

The Obvious Choices (and Why I'm Avoiding Them)

The 1950s? Poodle skirts abound. But do you really want to squeeze into one of those? Maybe you do, and that's great! I, however, will pass.

The 1980s scream neon. Leg warmers are definitely an option. So are giant hair and questionable fashion choices. It’s just…a lot. A lot of effort, a lot of neon.

Then there's the 1920s. Flapper dresses are beautiful. But finding one that fits, and doesn’t cost a fortune? Good luck! Plus, the Great Gatsby theme is…overdone, in my (slightly unpopular) opinion.

The 1970s. Bell bottoms are surprisingly comfortable. Think earthy tones and flowing fabrics. Bonus points for a groovy headband.

Embrace your inner Farrah Fawcett! I mean, who wouldn't want to? Just maybe skip the full-on feathered hair unless you’re truly committed.

What about the 1930s? Think classic elegance. Bias-cut dresses and simple accessories. It's sophisticated without being stuffy.

You could even channel a Katharine Hepburn vibe. Strong shoulders and tailored trousers. Pure class!

Don't underestimate the early 2000s. Remember those iconic denim-on-denim looks? Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake made it famous. Maybe a little too famous?

Okay, maybe leave the full denim suit at home. But low-rise jeans and a baby tee? Totally acceptable. Especially if you want an excuse to raid your younger sister's closet.

Going for the 1940s? Rosie the Riveter is always a winner. Easy to pull off. Plus, it empowers.

Just grab some jeans, a denim shirt, and a red bandana. Flex those muscles and strike a pose!

Still stumped? Here’s my secret weapon. Pick an iconic movie set in a specific decade. Then, dress as a character from that movie. Instant cool points!

Think Grease for the 1950s, Dazed and Confused for the 1970s, or Clueless for the 1990s. The possibilities are endless.

The best part? You already have a built-in conversation starter. Everyone loves quoting movies!

Ultimately, Decade Day is about having fun. Don’t stress too much about being perfectly authentic. Just pick something that makes you smile.
