How To Get To Island In Subnautica

So, you're itching to ditch the kelp forests and see some dry land in Subnautica, huh? Smart move! Those islands are like tiny beacons of hope in that big, blue, scary ocean. Let’s get you island hopping!
Lifepod 5: Your Island-Finding Compass
First things first: remember that busted-up lifepod you started in, Lifepod 5? It's your accidental landmark! Think of it as home base, except your home base is currently sinking.
This direction is always consistent at the start, so it becomes a great point of reference. We can use it for finding an island!
Island Number One: The Mountain Island (aka, The Big One)
Okay, imagine you're standing on top of Lifepod 5 (hypothetically, because you'd drown). Turn almost 180 degrees and then swim!
Keep your eyes peeled for the island on the horizon. If you can't see it, keep swimming, you will get there!
The Mountain Island is pretty huge. You can’t miss it!
Navigation Tips for the Mountain Island
You may want a vehicle, like a SeaGlide or the Seamoth. It would save your character’s precious energy.
If you are going straight for the island, prepare some food and water. Don't want to starve or dehydrate!
When you get close, watch out for the reefbacks! They are usually around the Mountain Island.
Island Number Two: The Floating Island (aka, The One That's... Floating)
Alright, after you have seen the Mountain Island, let’s find the other island. Imagine you are standing on Lifepod 5 again.
Instead of turning almost completely around, you only want to turn roughly 135 degrees. Then swim, swim and swim!
It’s a little trickier to spot at first, but you'll eventually see it hovering like a magnificent, leafy airship! Look up!
Navigation Tips for the Floating Island
The Floating Island is much smaller than the Mountain Island. But that’s no reason to underestimate the trip.
The Floating Island is also guarded by reefbacks, so, be careful! Especially if they are very close to the island.
Same as before, remember to prepare some food and water before you start swimming. Remember you may have to swim a long distance!
Advanced Island Hopping Pro Tips
Got the hang of it? Good! Now for some insider knowledge. Pay attention to the sun! It rises in the east and sets in the west.
This can help you orient yourself if you're completely lost. Use landmarks on the seabed! A weird-looking coral formation or a thermal vent.
Once you learn to recognize the biomes, you can use them to navigate as well. "Okay, I'm in the Grassy Plateaus, so the island is probably that way…"
What NOT to do When Island Hunting
Don't just blindly swim in one direction, hoping for the best. That's like throwing darts at a map blindfolded.
Don't forget your essentials! Food, water, and maybe a spare battery for your tools are like your island-finding survival kit.
Don't panic if you get turned around! It happens to the best of us. Just reorient yourself using your compass and the sun.
Get Out There and Explore!
Finding the islands in Subnautica is a big step in your survival journey. They offer resources, story clues, and a much-needed change of scenery!
Don't be afraid to explore! The more you explore, the more familiar you'll become with the map. You'll practically be giving island tours in no time!
