How To Get To The Abyss Dark Souls

So, you wanna visit the Abyss? Fancy a trip to the murkiest depths imaginable, huh? Well, strap in, buttercup, because getting there isn't exactly a walk in the park. More like a stroll through a demon-infested garden party planned by a sadist.

Step 1: Befriending a Giant Wolf (Yes, Really)

First things first, you need to build a bridge...metaphorically, of course. To traverse to the Abyss you will need Artorias' Greatshield. To achieve that you need to free Sif, the Great Grey Wolf.

Finding Sif is a bit of a trek. Head to the Darkroot Garden. Prepare for some serious bushwhacking. You're looking for the Darkroot Basin, a lovely spot populated by, oh, just your average garden variety monsters and a Hydra. Nothing a brave adventurer can't handle, right?

Rescuing the Good Boy

Down in the Darkroot Basin, you'll find a door leading to the Chasm of the Abyss (foreshadowing!). Inside, you'll encounter Sif, held captive by a gaggle of demonic creatures. Now, this is where things get heartwarming...and slightly stabby.

Vanquish the demons that are holding Sif hostage. After that, he'll give you a grateful howl and, you'll be able to free him. Remember this moment, it's important. This is so you can obtain Artorias' Greatshield later on.

Step 2: Getting the Crest of Artorias

Next, you're going to need the Crest of Artorias. This is how you unlock access to the garden proper. Go back to Andre the Blacksmith, and buy the crest.

With the crest in your pocket, head back to Darkroot Garden. Use the crest to open the locked door near the bonfire. Be ready to take on some tough enemies here!

Step 3: Facing the Butterfly (Seriously?)

Now, you're in the garden proper. There's a boss here, the Moonlight Butterfly. She flits around, shooting magical attacks. Bring some ranged attacks.

Once you defeat the butterfly, continue through the garden. You'll eventually reach a place that will be a crucial part of our journey.

Step 4: Defeat Sif

Now, here's where things get a little...emotional. Remember that grateful wolf you rescued? Yeah, you're going to have to fight him. This is where the heartbreaking part comes in.

Before you enter the arena, Sif will recognize you. If you freed him earlier, a special cutscene will play. He'll limp towards you, hesitant to fight. This is guaranteed to tug at your heartstrings.

Unfortunately, there's no way around this. You need Sif's soul. Take a deep breath, steel your resolve, and prepare for a difficult, and very sad, battle.

Step 5: Obtaining the Covenant of Artorias

Upon defeating Sif, you'll receive the Covenant of Artorias. This ring is the key. This is what allows you to traverse the Abyss without, you know, being torn apart by dark magic. Equip the ring, and you're ready for the final descent.

Step 6: Plunging into the Abyss

Remember that door where you originally rescued Sif? Head back to the Chasm of the Abyss, and equip the Covenant of Artorias. You should now be able to jump safely into the abyss below!

Congratulations! You've successfully navigated the treacherous path to the Abyss. Prepare for a whole new level of challenge and remember why you were here in the first place. Good luck, you'll need it.
