I Am Woman I Am Fearless Song Lyrics

Okay, let's talk about "I Am Woman." You know, that anthem? The one that's been belted out at karaoke nights since forever?
Specifically, let's look at the "I Am Woman I Am Fearless" line. Is it just me, or is that a teensy bit… optimistic?
Fearless? Really?
Don't get me wrong. I love Helen Reddy. An icon, truly. But fearless? C'mon!
I'm a woman. And sometimes, I'm pretty darn scared. Of spiders, for example. And public speaking. And accidentally sending a reply-all email to the entire company.
Is it an unpopular opinion to say that admitting fear is okay? I hope not!
Maybe "I Am Trying"?
Perhaps a more accurate lyric would be "I Am Woman, I Am Trying To Be Fearless." Or maybe, "I Am Woman, I Am Sometimes Braveish"?
Or even, "I Am Woman, I Am Occasionally Bold, Except When There's a Bug." That feels a bit more real, doesn't it?
I mean, let's be honest. We're navigating life. We are juggling jobs, families, and the constant pressure to look like we have it all together. That takes guts, sure. But it's not exactly fearless.
It's more like persistent. Like stubbornly refusing to give up even when things are tough. Which, in my book, is even more impressive than being completely fearless.
The Power of Admitting Fear
There’s a sneaky strength in admitting when we're scared. It's like, "Okay, yeah, this is terrifying. But I'm going to do it anyway."
That's empowerment right there. True empowerment. It's not about pretending fear doesn't exist.
It's about acknowledging it, and then choosing to move forward despite it. Big difference!
Think about it. How many times have you heard someone say, "I was terrified, but I did it anyway"?
And isn't that way more inspiring than someone who just breezes through life never experiencing a single moment of trepidation? (I suspect those people are secretly robots).
A Slight Lyric Adjustment
So, maybe we should all start singing a slightly revised version. "I Am Woman, I Am… Working on Being Fearless!"
Or, if you're feeling particularly honest, "I Am Woman, I Am Mostly Capable, Sometimes I Hide Under the Covers."
It’s all about owning our truth, right? And my truth is, I’m not always fearless. But I'm always trying. And that's something to sing about.
Maybe Helen Reddy would approve. Probably not, but a girl can dream!
What do you think? Am I completely off base? Or is it okay to admit that being human means being a little bit (or a lot) scared sometimes?
Let's face it: the world needs more realistically-brave women! And men, too! Let's trade the "fearless" badge for a "determined" or "resilient" one. I’d wear it proudly.
And who knows, maybe if we all started admitting our fears, they wouldn't seem so scary anymore.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go schedule an exterminator appointment.
