I Am Woman I Am Fearless Song

Okay, let's talk about a song. A song that's supposed to make us feel like superwomen. You know the one.
"I Am Woman, I Am Fearless": An Unpopular Opinion?
It's Helen Reddy's anthem. "I Am Woman," right? It's a classic. But hear me out.
I'm not saying it's a bad song. It's got a great message. Empowerment! Girl power! All that good stuff.
But... fearless? Really?
Fearless Laundry?
I'm a woman. And I'm definitely not fearless. I’m terrified of spiders. Also, folding fitted sheets.
Let's be honest. Who isn't at least a little scared sometimes? Taxes, dating, accidentally liking your ex's grandma's Instagram post from 2012.
Maybe "I Am Woman, I Am Mildly Anxious" is more accurate. Or "I Am Woman, I Am Doing My Best." Much more relatable.
The Myth of the Fearless Female
I think the whole "fearless" thing puts too much pressure on us. We're expected to be strong, independent, and never show weakness.
But showing vulnerability is okay! It's human. It's how we connect with each other.
And sometimes, admitting you're scared is the bravest thing you can do. It is a skill that needs to be taught.
Alternative Anthems for the Real Woman
Instead of "I Am Woman, I Am Fearless", can we have something like "I Am Woman, I Am Trying Not To Spill Coffee On My White Shirt"?
Or perhaps, "I Am Woman, I Am Currently Hiding In The Bathroom To Avoid Talking To My Relatives." That would be a hit.
I mean, who hasn't felt that before? A real woman anthem!
Fear: A Universal Experience
It is not a gendered experience. Men are scared too, they don't talk about it openly.
Everyone feels fear. It's part of being alive. Pretending we don't is just silly.
So, next time you hear Helen Reddy belting out "I Am Woman, I Am Fearless," just remember. It's okay to be a little scared.
Embracing Imperfection
Embrace the fear. Embrace the vulnerability. Embrace the fact that you're not perfect.
Because being a woman isn't about being fearless. It's about being resilient. And resourceful.
And finding the courage to face your fears, even if you're shaking in your boots while doing it. I am just a woman!
So, What's the Verdict?
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe everyone else genuinely feels fearless when they hear that song.
But I suspect I'm not alone. Maybe we can come together and create a new anthem.
One that celebrates the real, messy, wonderful, and sometimes slightly terrified reality of being a woman (or, let's face it, a person) in the world.
What do you think? Is it a little outdated? Don't get me wrong, I respect the song. But things changed.
Let's acknowledge that we are not superheroes. We are just people trying to survive.
And that's more than good enough.
