Is Snowpiercer A Sequel To Willy Wonka

Okay, hear me out. What if the grim, post-apocalyptic world of Snowpiercer, where humanity's last survivors circle a frozen Earth on a perpetually moving train, is secretly a bizarre, twisted sequel to Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory? I know, I know, it sounds crazy. But stick with me, this is fun!
The Inventive Genius...Gone Mad?
Think about it. Willy Wonka, the eccentric chocolatier, possessed boundless creativity. He could conjure up everlasting gobstoppers and fizzy lifting drinks. But what if, after the chocolate factory, his genius took a darker turn?
Maybe Willy, disillusioned with the greed and gluttony of the children who visited his factory (ahem, Violet Beauregarde!), decided humanity needed a radical solution. A drastic reset, if you will.
The Golden Ticket...to Survival?
Instead of a golden ticket to chocolatey delights, Wonka, now perhaps under a different alias (Mr. Wilford, perhaps?), builds the Snowpiercer. Instead of a chocolate river, we have a self-sustaining ecosystem on rails.
He carefully selects the passengers, ensuring a balance of skills and resources. Think of it as a very, very long-term, high-stakes Oompa Loompa experiment. But this time, the stakes are the survival of the human race. Pretty heavy stuff.
The Oompa Loompa Parallel
Speaking of Oompa Loompas, aren't the workers in the tail section of Snowpiercer a little... regimented? They toil tirelessly, their lives dictated by the whims of the front section elite. Sounds familiar, right?
Perhaps they are a distant, genetically modified version of the Oompa Loompas. Forced to provide for the 'chosen' few who purchased their way onto the train. It’s a much darker reality than singing catchy songs about bad children.
The Eternal Engine – A Wonka Invention?
The engine of Snowpiercer is a miraculous, seemingly impossible machine. It powers the entire train, maintaining a habitable environment despite the frozen wasteland outside.
Wouldn't it make sense that a mind capable of inventing a three-course-meal chewing gum could also conceive of a perpetual motion engine? Wonka was all about the impossible made possible. But this time, the stakes are way higher than just dessert.
The Moral of the Story (Is Still There!)
Despite the vastly different tones, both Willy Wonka and Snowpiercer explore themes of social inequality. They both highlight the consequences of unchecked greed and the importance of fairness.
In Willy Wonka, the bad kids get their comeuppance. In Snowpiercer, the struggle for equality takes on a much more violent, and desperate, form. It’s the same cautionary tale, just with a lot more snow and less chocolate.
So, next time you're watching Snowpiercer, think about Willy Wonka. Maybe, just maybe, this dark, frozen future is just a very, very long, and very strange, epilogue to a classic children's tale. Food for thought, indeed.
"Come with me, and you'll be in a world of… frozen desperation!" – A very different Willy Wonka
