Happy Endings, Y'all! (Don't @ Me)
Okay, okay, deep breaths. I'm about to say something potentially controversial. Something that might get me some side-eye at the next country music gathering.
I like Johnny Rodriguez's "We Believe In Happy Endings." And I'm not afraid to admit it.
Hear Me Out!
Look, I know country music is supposed to be all about heartbreak. Trucks, dogs, and lost loves are the holy trinity. And I respect that. I really do.
But sometimes, just sometimes, a girl wants a little sunshine. A little hope. A little promise that things *might* actually work out okay.
Is that so wrong?
I mean, seriously. We’re bombarded with bad news constantly. Every day is a potential disaster movie in the making.
Can’t we have one song, just *one*, that suggests maybe, just maybe, love isn't doomed to a fiery crash?
The Underrated Power of Positivity
"We Believe In Happy Endings" is like a musical hug. It's a fluffy cloud of optimism drifting through a thunderstorm of sorrow.
It's the equivalent of ordering fries when you're supposed to be on a diet. Pure, unadulterated, delightful rebellion.
And sometimes, that’s exactly what we need, right?
It's easy to scoff at happy endings. Cynicism is cool, I get it. It's the black leather jacket of emotions. But it's also exhausting.
Give me a denim jacket embroidered with flowers any day.
Not Saying Heartbreak Doesn't Exist...
Now, before you come at me with pitchforks, I'm not dismissing the reality of heartbreak. Been there, cried into my beer, bought the sad songs playlist.
I’ve even written a few tragic poems about it. (Don’t ask to see them.)
But I think acknowledging pain and *also* believing in the possibility of happiness isn't mutually exclusive. It's called being a well-rounded individual!
Think of it like this: Country music is a buffet. Heartbreak is the meat and potatoes, the reliable comfort food. Johnny Rodriguez is the fruit salad. Sweet, unexpected, and surprisingly refreshing.
Unpopular Opinion, Embraced!
So, yes. I’m a fan of "We Believe In Happy Endings." It's a feel-good anthem in a genre often dominated by feel-bad anthems.
And I’m embracing it. Loudly. Proudly.
If that makes me basic, so be it. I'll take basic and happy over complicated and miserable any day of the week.
Maybe, just maybe, we all need to believe in happy endings a little bit more. Even if it's just for the duration of a three-minute country song.
Let's crank up the Johnny Rodriguez and dare to dream, shall we?
"We believe in happy endings, don't you know? We believe in love that's true and that will grow."
Mic drop. (Or maybe just a gentle guitar riff.)
