Okay, let's talk Journey to the West 2. You know, the one with all the demons and the monk's terrible singing? It's a wild ride, isn't it?

But here's where I might lose some of you. Are we ready? I kind of... prefer the English dub.

Before you sharpen your pitchforks, let me explain. I love the original, of course. The actors are amazing, the visuals are stunning. The whole thing is a masterpiece!

However, sometimes I just want to switch my brain off. Enter: the English dub.

Think about it. No need to focus on subtitles. You can actually *watch* the movie! Observe the incredible special effects. Check out Stephen Chow's hilarious facial expressions.

I know, I know. Subtitles are more "authentic". But sometimes, authentic just requires too much effort after a long day. I can follow along and enjoy all the jokes.

The Dubbing Dilemma: It's All About Context

Look, bad dubbing is the *worst*. We've all seen those films where the voices don't match the lips and the acting is wooden. *Shudders*.

But when dubbing is done well, it can be a glorious thing. Think of it as a remix. A new interpretation. I mean it's not bad. At least for me.

Also, let's be honest, some of the jokes just land better in English. It's probably not the purist option. For some reason, "Buddha's Palm!" sounds much funnier.

Unpopular Opinion Alert!

I'm not saying the original Cantonese version isn't brilliant. It totally is. And I feel some audience might agree with me.

I'm just saying the English dub has a certain... charm. A goofy, over-the-top charm. A charm that lets me fully enjoy the chaotic beauty of Journey to the West 2 while simultaneously eating a family-size bag of chips.

It's comfort food for the eyes and ears, what can I say?

The Case For Lazy Viewing

Maybe I'm just lazy. Okay, I'm probably lazy. And who can deny that we are lazy from time to time?

But sometimes, laziness is a virtue. It allows us to appreciate the simpler things in life. Like watching Tang Sanzang get repeatedly humiliated by demons without having to read a single line of text.

It is a guilty pleasure to watch it at times. I can watch it repeatedly.

Judge Me, But Hear Me Out

So, there you have it. My unpopular opinion. I enjoy the English dub of Journey to the West 2. And I'm not ashamed. Well, maybe a little.

But hey, to each their own, right? You can stick to your subtitles. I'll be over here laughing at the ridiculously dubbed sound effects.
