Keepers Of The Lost Cities Movie Trailer

Okay, let's talk about that Keepers of the Lost Cities movie trailer. You know, the one we've all been waiting (im)patiently for? I have some...thoughts.
Don't get me wrong, I'm excited! I really am. I devoured those books like they were forbidden cache.
First Impressions: Shiny!
The trailer definitely looks polished. Everything is so... sparkly. Is the Lost Cities aesthetic just excessive glitter?
Maybe I'm just old and grumpy. Back in my day, fantasy was more about dirt and less about shimmer.
Sophie Foster: A Little...Different?
Sophie, our beloved protagonist, seems... different. Am I the only one who thinks that?
She feels less like the awkwardly powerful telepath I imagined. More like a seasoned pro. Maybe it's just me.
Fitz Vacker: Still Brooding, I See
And Fitz! Oh, Fitz. Brooding as ever. I appreciate the consistency, at least.
Though, honestly, all the male characters seem to be stuck in perpetual "concerned eyebrow" mode.
The Special Effects: A Questionable Choice?
Now, the special effects. They're... ambitious. A little *too* ambitious maybe?
Some of the powers look less like subtle mental abilities and more like a rave. My unpopular opinion? A little goes a long way.
Did anyone else think the scenes felt a little *too* CGI heavy?
The Gnomish Weaponry, A Serious Matter
Also, those gnomish weapons. Did anyone else find them a little... comical? They're supposed to be intimidating. But they come off quirky.
Maybe the movie will give them more weight, but in the trailer, they give me an unsettling giggle.
The Overall Vibe: Is It KOTLC?
My biggest issue is the overall vibe. It feels… generic?
Where's the quirky charm? The awkward teenage angst? The feeling of stumbling into a world both magical and dangerous?
Does it capture the heart of Shannon Messenger's world? I'm honestly not sure. Maybe the book's complexity will be delivered better in the actual movie.
I'm still holding out hope, don't get me wrong! I desperately want this movie to be amazing.
My Unpopular Opinion: Lower the Stakes
Here's my real unpopular opinion: maybe they're trying too hard. Fantasy films don't have to be these epic, world-ending spectacles.
Sometimes, the best stories are about the small moments. About finding your place. About friendship and figuring out who you are. You know, like the first book!
I feel like, if this movie focuses more on the character relationship and the smaller plots, it will be better. It should capture the innocence and quirky charm from the first couple of books. I still want to be hopeful.
So, yeah, that's my take. Am I being too harsh? Probably. Will I still be first in line to see it? Absolutely.
After all, who am I kidding? I'm a sucker for anything Keepers of the Lost Cities. Even if it's a little too sparkly.
Just promise me, Shannon Messenger, that Keefe will still be charming. I will settle for nothing less!
