Lord Of The Flies Chapter 7 Audiobook

Chapter 7: Shadows and Doubts – Let's Be Honest
Okay, let's talk about Lord of the Flies, Chapter 7. Specifically, the audiobook version. I'm going to say something potentially controversial. Brace yourselves.
It's… kind of a slog. Don't get me wrong, the story itself is brilliant. But listening to it? Especially this chapter?
The Walking, the Hunting, the Thinking…
Seriously, how much walking did those boys do? It feels like the entire chapter is just them trudging through the jungle.
And thinking! Oh, the internal monologues! Ralph's yearning for home. Piggy's… well, Piggy's being Piggy. It's important, sure, but in audiobook form? My mind wanders.
I'm not saying it's boring. Okay, maybe a little. But it's more like… intensely atmospheric boredom. Like staring at a really detailed painting of a really boring landscape.
The Boar Hunt: Exciting or Exasperating?
The boar hunt is supposed to be exciting, right? The thrill of the chase, the primal instincts unleashed!
But in the audiobook, it's just a lot of heavy breathing and rustling noises. You know, without the visuals, I was picturing them chasing a particularly stubborn dust bunny.
I know, I know, I'm being flippant. It's a metaphor for their descent into savagery! Still, that dust bunny was really putting up a fight.
Ralph's Moment of… What Exactly?
Ralph actually hits the boar! This is supposed to be a big moment for him. A taste of the wild side!
But for me, it just highlighted his character arc. Or lack thereof. We all know Jack is the one who fully embraces the hunter persona.
Ralph just seems… momentarily distracted. Like he accidentally stumbled into a LARPing session and is awkwardly trying to fit in.
The Descent into Darkness (Already?)
Things get darker at the end of the chapter. They decide to go up the mountain in the dark to find the beast.
Cue more heavy breathing and rustling noises! Only this time, with added suspenseful music (at least in my version).
Seriously, though, the tension is palpable. But by this point, I was so mentally fatigued from all the walking and thinking that I almost didn't care what they found.
The Unpopular Opinion, Revealed!
So, here it is: Chapter 7 of the Lord of the Flies audiobook is… skippable. Not entirely, of course.
You need to know the basic plot points. But if you're struggling to stay awake, you can probably skim a summary and not miss too much.
Sue me! I said it! And if you disagree, that's fine. Maybe you're more attuned to the subtle nuances of jungle ambience than I am.
Final Thoughts (and a Plea for Forgiveness)
Look, I love Lord of the Flies. It's a classic. But some chapters are just better experienced in written form, or even better, through a compelling film adaptation.
The audiobooks is like, really, really well-read. But sometimes, even the best narration can't save you from existential jungle fatigue.
So, next time you're tempted to listen to Chapter 7, maybe just grab a book. Or, you know, watch paint dry. It might be more stimulating.
Disclaimer: This is just my opinion. Please don't send angry emails. And definitely don't unleash any dust bunnies on me.
