Oss 117 From Africa With Love Streaming

OSS 117: From Africa With Love is streaming! And guess what? I have some *thoughts*.
Hubert Bonisseur de La Bath: My Unpopular Opinion
Don't get me wrong, I *adore* the OSS 117 films. But From Africa With Love… well, let's just say it's not my favorite.
Hear me out! I know, I know. Jean Dujardin is brilliant. He embodies the clueless, yet confident, spy perfectly.
The Charm's Still There... Mostly
The awkwardness? Top-notch. The casual sexism? Ugh, present. The sheer absurdity? Off the charts!
It's got all the ingredients we love (or love to hate) about OSS 117. But something feels… off.
Africa Through Rosy (and Racist) Glasses?
Maybe it's the setting. The previous films played with French stereotypes in Egypt and Brazil.
Here, the depiction of Africa feels… dated. And not in a charming, retro way. More like, “Yikes, did they really?”
I understand it's satire. But sometimes, the satire just doesn't land. It makes me squirm a bit.
New Sidekicks, Same Old Shenanigans?
The new characters are fun. The dynamic between OSS 117 and his younger, more progressive partner is hilarious.
But they can't quite save the film from feeling a little… tired. Like they're running out of steam.
Or maybe I'm just being overly critical. After all, it's still OSS 117. And who doesn't love a good dose of political incorrectness served with a side of slapstick?
Is it Still Worth Watching?
Absolutely! If you're a fan of the previous films, give it a go. You'll laugh. You'll cringe. You'll probably say, "Oh, Hubert!" a few times.
Just go in with lowered expectations. Don't expect a masterpiece. Expect some lighthearted, albeit sometimes uncomfortable, fun.
Think of it as a guilty pleasure. Like eating a whole bag of chips in one sitting. You know it's bad for you, but you can't help yourself.
My Final (Probably Controversial) Verdict
From Africa With Love? It's okay. Just okay.
It’s not the worst OSS 117 film, but it's definitely not the best. It resides firmly in the middle for me. The funny bits are truly laugh out loud. But some aspects didn't aged very well!
I'll still watch it again. Because Jean Dujardin. And because I secretly love to be outraged by OSS 117's antics. Don't judge me!
So, go stream it. Then come back here and tell me I'm wrong. I'm ready for the debate. Just please, be gentle!
“I’m not sure I understand. It’s simple. He wants you to understand that he doesn’t understand. In other words, he understands!” – An iconic OSS 117 quote that perfectly sums up the series.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go re-watch Cairo, Nest of Spies. Because that one? *That* one is a masterpiece.
