Step By Step How To Draw A Parrot

So, you want to draw a parrot? Awesome! Let's be honest, parrots are basically feathered comedians. Who wouldn't want to immortalize one on paper?
Step 1: The Potato
Start with a potato. Yes, a potato. I know, unpopular opinion: potatoes are the unsung heroes of the produce aisle. Draw an oval. It doesn't have to be perfect. Mine usually looks like it was grown by a visually impaired squirrel.
This potato-shaped oval will be the body. Think of it as the parrot's fluffy, feathery torso. We’ll make it look less starchy, promise.
Step 2: The Head (aka The Smaller Potato)
Now, add another, smaller potato. Overlapping the first one, obviously. It is on the front side. This is its head.
Don’t make it too big. Unless you want a parrot with a serious head size complex. Remember, we are going for cute, not monstrous.
Step 3: Beak It 'Til You Make It
Here comes the beak! Draw a curved triangle jutting out from the head. Make it look strong. Parrots need powerful beaks for cracking nuts and bossing people around.
Give it a little curve. Make sure to add a small detail to its beak. Don't forget this detail.
Step 4: Eye Spy
Add an eye. Just a circle. Unless you're feeling fancy, then go for an almond shape. Inside, put a smaller circle for the pupil.
Give it a little glint of light. Now it looks alive. And maybe a little judgmental. After all, it *is* a parrot.
Step 5: Wing It!
Draw a curved shape extending from the back of the body. This is a wing. It should look like a comma, or maybe a cashew.
Parrots have wings for flying. Or, more likely, for dramatic entrances and exits. Add a few lines to suggest feathers.
Step 6: Leg Day
Time for legs! Draw two short, stubby lines coming down from the bottom of the body. These are the legs.
Give them little claws. Three pointing forward and one pointing backward. It's parrot foot 101. Remember, parrot feet are important.
Step 7: The Tail Feather
Now, for the tail. Draw a long, tapering shape extending from the back of the potato body. This is the tail.
Make it feathery. Give it some personality. A parrot's tail is like its attitude indicator.
Step 8: Erase the Evidence
Erase any overlapping lines. Like where the head meets the body. This is where your potato transforms into an actual parrot.
It's like magic. Except with more erasing.
Step 9: Add Some Color!
Here's where the fun really begins. Grab your crayons, markers, or whatever art supplies you have lying around. Parrots are colorful creatures.
Go wild. Make it rainbow-colored. Or stick to classic parrot hues. It’s your parrot. It’s your masterpiece. Let your inner artist fly!
Step 10: Give It Attitude
Parrots aren’t just colorful. They have character. Add some finishing touches to give your parrot personality.
Maybe it's tilting its head. Perhaps it's got a mischievous glint in its eye. A little bit of sass goes a long way! There you have it!
You’ve drawn a parrot! Now, go forth and draw an entire flock. The world needs more parrot art. And, frankly, more parrots.
And hey, if it looks a little wonky? Don't sweat it. Even Picasso had his off days.
