The Pie Song From The Movie Michael

Okay, let’s talk about something truly important. Something that’s been on my mind. Something…pastry-related. I'm talking about The Pie Song. You know, from the movie Michael.
An Unpopular Opinion?
Maybe this is just me. Maybe I’m alone on this sugary island. But I think The Pie Song is… kinda annoying. There, I said it!
Hear Me Out!
Before you grab your pitchforks (or, more appropriately, your pie forks), let me explain. I appreciate the sentiment. John Travolta as Michael is supposed to be this childlike, angel-ish figure, right?
And pie is, like, peak Americana comfort food. So, conceptually, a song about pie makes sense. It's supposed to be whimsical and sweet. I get it.
The Catch
But…the execution. Oh, the execution! That high-pitched, repetitive chorus… it drills into your brain. "Pie, pie, me oh my..." It's the earworm that just. Won't. Leave.
I understand the movie’s going for that innocent, almost gratingly-simple vibe. Michael isn't exactly subtle. But the song feels a little too much. Just a tad too much pie for my taste.
Perhaps its a generation thing. I'm sure some of you adore it. I respect that.
Let's Be Honest
Isn’t it just a little…cheesy? Yes, I'm aware I just used that adjective in a piece *about* pie. It felt necessary. It’s hard to imagine myself belting this tune out at karaoke.
And don’t even get me started on how it stops the movie. It just... occurs. It's the definition of a musical number thrown in for fun.
Other Movie Songs Are Better
Think of other iconic movie songs. "Mrs. Robinson" from The Graduate. "Stayin’ Alive" from Saturday Night Fever. Heck, even "Hakuna Matata" from The Lion King. They’re catchy, sure. But they’re also…well, good. They make sense.
They progress the plot or reveal something about the characters. The Pie Song... is about pie. Delicious pie, granted. But still. Just pie.
And what's with that dance routine? So strange. Is this an angel thing?
Maybe It's Just Me
Look, I’m not saying the whole movie is bad. John Travolta is great. The premise is interesting. And the ending is… well, I won’t spoil it. For the three people who haven’t seen it.
Maybe I'm just being overly critical. Maybe I’m missing the deeper meaning. Maybe I need more sugar in my system. Perhaps I am, as my mother would say, being a "pie-hole".
But I’m standing my ground. The Pie Song? Overrated. Feel free to disagree. Let the pie fight begin!
A Moment of Reflection
So, what do you think? Am I completely off my rocker? Or are you secretly with me? Do you also cringe just a *little* bit when that song starts?
Let me know! Misery (or, in this case, mild annoyance) loves company. And maybe, just maybe, we can find a better movie song to obsess over together.
Okay, now I want pie. Apple, please. No singing required.
I promise, I'll probably still watch Michael again soon. But I'll be fast-forwarding through that part.
