Which Way Do You Read Manga

The Great Manga Reading Debate: Am I Wrong?
Okay, let's talk manga. Specifically, which way you read it. Right to left? Left to right? It's a battleground, folks.
I'm just going to say it: I sometimes read manga... *backwards*.
Gasp! I know, I know. Purists are clutching their copies of Berserk in horror. But hear me out (or, uh, read me out?).
The "Correct" Way (According to...Everyone?)
The "right" way is definitely right-to-left. That's how it's published, that's how the panels flow. It's manga law!
Except... sometimes my brain just refuses. It's like trying to parallel park a semi-truck in a thimble.
I get confused. The action is going the wrong way. Speech bubbles attack me from the rear.
And then there's the fact that I'm a product of Western comic books. Superman taught me to read left to right, darn it!
My Heretical Method: A Confession
So, what do I do? I flip the book. I read it like a regular book. Left. To. Right.
Don't judge me! I know, I know. I'm probably ruining the artistic intent. The mangaka is rolling in their grave (even if they're still alive).
But sometimes, it just *clicks* better. I understand the story. The characters make sense.
I get more enjoyment out of One Piece when I'm not battling my own internal compass.
The "Flip It and Reverse It" Technique
Here's the thing: I don't *always* read manga backwards. It's more of a situational thing. Like when I'm super tired or have had too much coffee.
Or when the panel layout is particularly confusing. Some mangaka are masters of visual storytelling. Others? Well...
And I'll admit, sometimes I just want to be a rebel. To thumb my nose at convention! To shout from the rooftops: "I read manga however I dang well please!"
Am I Alone in This Manga Madness?
I can't be the only one, right? Surely there are others out there who occasionally commit this manga sin.
Maybe you're too ashamed to admit it. Maybe you fear the wrath of the manga gods. I understand.
But take heart! You are not alone. We are the backwards manga readers. We are legion!
A Plea for Understanding (and Maybe Forgiveness)
So, the next time you see someone reading manga from left to right, don't judge too harshly. They might be struggling. They might be tired. They might just be...me.
Instead, offer them a kind smile. A knowing nod. Or maybe just point them to a helpful tutorial on how to read manga properly.
But most importantly, let them enjoy their manga. Even if they're doing it wrong. Because ultimately, isn't that what it's all about? Enjoyment?
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go read some Attack on Titan... backwards. Just kidding! (Maybe.)
Okay, okay, maybe I'll try reading it the right way this time. But no promises.
