Anime That Came Out In 2009

Ah, 2009. Remember waiting impatiently for dial-up to connect? Good times. And guess what else happened? A bunch of anime premiered! Let's dive in and see what treasures (and maybe some questionable choices) this year bestowed upon us.
The Big Hits
Okay, let's start with the heavy hitters. K-On! hit the scene and pretty much defined "cute girls doing cute things." Admit it, you secretly wished you were in a band, eating cake, and being adorably clueless.
Then there was Bakemonogatari. This one was all about supernatural weirdness and wordplay. I'm still not entirely sure what was happening half the time, but it was stylish, right?
And who could forget Fairy Tail? Magic, friendship, and a whole lotta yelling. This one had "long-running shonen series" written all over it from the start. It knew what it was.
Hidden Gems (Maybe?)
Now, let's dig a little deeper. Eden of the East had a cool premise. Amnesia, a phone with superpowers, and a game to save Japan? I was intrigued, though the ending left me scratching my head. Anyone else?
Anyone remember Darker than Black: Ryuusei no Gemini? The second season. I know, I know, controversial. Some people loved it, some people hated it. I kinda... liked it? Don't judge me!
Then there's Sora no Manimani. It's a sweet, simple series about astronomy and high school. It probably flew under a lot of radars, but it’s worth checking out for some light hearted fun.
The "Wait, That Was 2009?" Club
Sometimes, time plays tricks on us. Did you know Maria†Holic came out in 2009? That's right, the cross-dressing, yuri-ish, comedy explosion. So much chaos!
And Taishou Yakyuu Musume, a baseball anime with girls set in the Taisho era. A unique concept, though it was probably overshadowed by other sports anime.
An Unpopular Opinion (Brace Yourselves!)
Okay, here it comes. I think some of the less popular anime from 2009 are underrated! There, I said it. Don't get me wrong, K-On! is great, but sometimes you want something a little different.
Maybe it's the nostalgia talking. Maybe it's my questionable taste. But I think there's something charming about the slightly clunky animation and the less-polished stories. Anyone agree? ...Anyone?
Final Thoughts
2009 was a diverse year for anime. We had slice-of-life sweetness, supernatural mysteries, and everything in between. Whether you were obsessed with K-On! or secretly enjoyed Darker than Black's second season, there was something for everyone.
So, what are your favorite anime from 2009? Let me know! I'm always up for a good anime discussion (and maybe defending my unpopular opinions).
