How To Make A Fake Cut With Makeup

Ready to Become a Special Effects Superstar (Without Actually Getting Hurt)?
Okay, picture this: You're at a Halloween party. Everyone's dressed as ghosts and vampires, but you? You've got a totally realistic, totally fake, totally awesome cut on your arm! It's like, "Whoa! Did you fall down the stairs... into a meat grinder?" (Don't worry, you didn't!).
The secret? Makeup, baby! And I'm here to tell you it's easier than making instant ramen. Trust me, if I can do it, anyone can!
Gather Your Tools (and Your Courage!)
First things first, you'll need your supplies. This isn't brain surgery; it's way more fun!
Grab some liquid latex. This is your magic skin-creating potion. Then you will need some tissue or cotton wool.
Next: red lipstick or lip gloss, because who doesn't have a rogue lipstick somewhere in the back of their drawer. Also a dark red or brown eyeshadow.
Finally, makeup brushes and sponges.
Let's Get Cutting (Figuratively, Of Course!)
Find the spot where you want your "injury". Arm, cheek, forehead – the world is your (fake-wound-covered) oyster!
Apply a thin layer of liquid latex where you will like to place the cut. Let it dry. It will become clear!
Tear a small piece of tissue or cotton. Press it on top of the dried liquid latex. Add another layer of liquid latex on top, making sure to seal the edges.
Let it dry again. You can use a hairdryer in a cool setting to speed up the process!
Add another layer of liquid latex on top, repeat 3 to 4 times. The higher the layers, the deeper the cut.
Here's where the fun starts. Gently pull at the tissue/cotton to tear a gap in the middle. This will create the illusion of a cut.
Time for the "Blood" (It's Actually Just Lipstick!)
Now, for the pièce de résistance: the blood! Remember that red lipstick you grabbed earlier? Smear it generously inside the "cut".
Get your eyeshadow now. Blend a little around the edges of the wound to create shadow.
You can add a little bit of fake blood for extra drama. But lipstick works perfectly too!
Blend a little bit of red lipstick outside the "cut" for a realistic effect. Think fresh wound, not perfectly contained blood.
Remember, imperfection is key! Real cuts aren't neat and tidy.
Level Up Your Wound (Because Why Not?)
Want to add some extra gore? (Okay, maybe not "gore," but definitely some extra *oomph*!).
Dab some fake blood around the wound. Let it drip dramatically. Now you are ready.
You can also use brown eyeshadow to add some "dirt" around the edges. Imagine you just scraped your knee falling off a bike... into a muddy puddle. Method acting, people!
If you want to add some extra realism, you can use petroleum jelly around the wound. Creates a raw look.
Show Off Your Masterpiece (and Maybe Freak Out Your Friends!)
That's it! You've created a convincing fake cut with makeup. Now go forth and terrify (or at least mildly startle) your friends and family!
Just remember to be careful when you remove the liquid latex. Peel it off gently. Use makeup remover if you need to!
Congratulations! You're officially a special effects artist. Now go practice and get ready for Halloween! Who knows, maybe you'll be the next Rick Baker!
