I Hear The Sunspot Four Seasons Volume 1

Okay, let's talk I Hear the Sunspot: Four Seasons Volume 1. Yeah, *that* one. The boys are cute, the story's sweet, and everyone seems to *love* it. But, uh, can we be real for a sec?
Maybe it's just me, but I didn't *totally* fall head-over-heels. I know, I know! Unpopular opinion, incoming!
Sunshine and… Slight Shade?
Don't get me wrong, the art is lovely. The characters, Taichi and Kouhei, are endearing enough. It’s just...the hype felt a little much, maybe?
It’s like everyone's raving about the most amazing sunshine, and I'm standing there like, "Yeah, it's nice sunshine. Good, even. But, like, is it *life-changing* sunshine?" I'm not sure it is.
The whole hearing impairment plot device? Powerful, sure. But did it always feel *naturally* integrated into the story? Mmm, debatable.
The "Relatable" Factor (or Lack Thereof)
I'm all for sweet romances. I love a good meet-cute! But some of the situations felt a tad...contrived, perhaps?
Like, I know college kids do some weird stuff. But a photography student needing a *notetaker* *this* desperately? Seems a bit convenient for the plot, right?
And Kouhei's whole aloof act? I get it. Brooding is a classic trope. Still, did it make him particularly...likable? Jury's out.
Did I Miss Something?
Look, I'm not saying it's bad. It's a perfectly fine, fluffy BL. It just didn't leave me weeping with joy, unlike apparently everyone else on the internet.
Maybe my expectations were too high. Perhaps I went in expecting a profound meditation on disability and romance. I definitely didn't get that.
I saw cute boys being cute. And that's...fine. Just not *earth-shattering* fine, you know?
“It's like ordering a pizza and getting a perfectly acceptable, edible pizza. You're not *disappointed*, but you're not writing a sonnet about it either.”
The Verdict?
So, there it is. My slightly dissenting opinion on I Hear the Sunspot: Four Seasons Volume 1. Forgive me, BL gods!
Maybe I need to reread it. Maybe I'll magically "get it" the second time around. But for now, I remain...underwhelmed.
Don't get me wrong, I’m not a hater. I’ll probably even check out volume 2, just in case! But for now, it gets a solid "meh" from me.
Anyone else feel the same? Or am I destined to be alone in my unpopular opinion? Let me know!
