Only Love Can Break Your Heart Big Daddy

Okay, hear me out. I have a confession to make. It involves Adam Sandler, crying babies, and a surprising amount of golf.
An Unpopular Opinion: Big Daddy Is... Fine?
I know, I know. People either seem to love or hate Big Daddy. There's rarely an in-between. It's practically a cinematic Rorschach test.
But I'm here to say it's...fine! Perfectly acceptable weekend viewing. A fluffy, slightly ridiculous, feel-good movie.
Don't get me wrong. It's not winning any Oscars. It's not high art. We're talking about a movie where Adam Sandler raises a kid he found. With a surprising amount of pee jokes.
The Plot Thickens (Or, Thins?)
Sonny Koufax, our lovable slacker, tries to prove he's responsible. He adopts Julian to win back his girlfriend. Naturally, chaos ensues.
We get tantrums, questionable parenting techniques, and trips to Hooters. You know, classic Sandler stuff.
And honestly? That's part of the charm. It's predictable, but comfortably so. Like a well-worn pair of sweatpants.
Sandler's Shtick: Does It Still Work?
Some say Sandler's humor is juvenile. Too reliant on silly voices and slapstick. I get it. But there's also something endearing about his goofy persona.
He commits to the bit. You can tell he's having fun. And sometimes, that's enough.
Plus, Cole and Dylan Sprouse are adorable as young Julian! Who can resist those little faces? (Spoiler alert: Not me.)
"Only Love Can Break Your Heart, Big Daddy"
The emotional core of the movie, however thin, is there. Sonny learns to grow up. He takes responsibility for someone else.
It's not groundbreaking character development. But it's enough to tug at the heartstrings. Especially when you throw in that iconic Neil Young song.
I mean, who *hasn't* teared up a little when Sonny has to say goodbye to Julian? Don't lie. We've all been there.
The Verdict: Guilty Pleasure?
Okay, maybe Big Daddy *is* a guilty pleasure. A cinematic cheeseburger. Not exactly nutritious, but satisfying in its own way.
It's dumb. It's goofy. It's undeniably Sandler-esque. But sometimes, that's exactly what you need.
So next time you're scrolling through streaming services, give Big Daddy a chance. Or rewatch it. I won't judge. (Much.) Just don't expect a masterpiece.
Expect a lot of questionable parenting. Expect pee jokes. And expect to maybe, just maybe, crack a smile.
And if you still hate it? That's fine too. We can agree to disagree. Just don't judge *me* too harshly. After all, only love can break my heart…Big Daddy.
