Spider Man Miles Morales Jefferson Davis Grave

Okay, hear me out. We all love Spider-Man: Miles Morales, right? Swinging through Harlem, stopping crime, saving cats. Good times!
But there's something... nagging. Something a little icky. It's about Jefferson Davis. And his grave. Well, actually, about the fictional Jefferson Davis, Miles's dad.
Is it just me, or...?
So, Jefferson Davis is a good guy. A really, REALLY good guy. A cop, a community leader, a hero. No arguments there.
Except... his name. It's... a choice. A bold choice. A *historically* charged choice.
And, look, I get it. Namesakes don't define us. Maybe his parents just liked the sound of it?
But come on! It's like naming your kid Benedict Arnold Smith and expecting everyone to just shrug.
The Grave Situation
Then there's the grave. You visit it in the game, pay your respects, maybe shed a digital tear. Emotional stuff.
But every time I'm there, I'm just... distracted. Distracted by the name etched in stone. Distracted by the historical baggage.
Is it disrespectful to the *fictional* Jefferson Davis to feel this way? Probably. Am I still going to feel it? Yep.
Unpopular Opinion Time
Here's where I might lose some of you. I think they should have changed the name. Before the game came out.
I know, I know! It's part of his established backstory! It's a tribute to his strength and character! It's symbolic of overcoming adversity!
But is it *really* worth the historical minefield? The constant explaining? The inevitable "Wait, WHAT'S his name?" reaction?
Imagine someone less familiar with American history playing the game. They Google Jefferson Davis. Uh oh.
A Simple Fix
They could have changed just one letter. Jepherson Davis. Jeffreson Davis. Anything!
It still sounds similar. It still honors the character. But it avoids all the problematic connotations. Problem solved!
And yes, I know retconning is a controversial topic. But sometimes, a little tweak can make a world of difference.
I'm not saying the game is ruined. Not at all! I still love it. I just think this one detail was a misstep.
Maybe in Spider-Man 3, Miles discovers a clerical error on his dad's birth certificate? Just spitballing here.
Listen, I'm just saying. It's a superhero game. Where a kid gets bitten by a radioactive spider and fights crime. A little name change wouldn't break the immersion, would it?
And honestly, it might make that graveside visit a little less... awkward. A little less historically charged. A little more about Miles and his dad. That's all I'm saying.
So, what do you think? Am I totally off base here? Or does anyone else feel a little weird about the Jefferson Davis thing? Let me know!
