Packing List For Basic Training Army

Incoming Army recruits: Report for Basic Combat Training (BCT) prepared. Forget civilian comfort; your packing list is mission-critical for a successful transition to soldier life.
This article provides a concise, official packing list for Army BCT, emphasizing essential items and prohibited belongings to ensure recruits arrive ready to focus on training, not acquiring necessities. Failure to adhere to these guidelines could result in delays or disciplinary actions.
Essential Items to Bring:
Documentation:
Carry the following on your person: Government-issued photo ID (driver's license, passport), Social Security card (original), birth certificate (certified copy), original orders assigning you to BCT, marriage certificate (if applicable), divorce decree (if applicable), and banking information (account number and routing number) for direct deposit. These are mandatory for processing.
Clothing:
Pack 3-5 pairs of plain white crew-neck t-shirts (no logos or designs). Bring 3-5 pairs of plain white underwear (briefs or boxer briefs are acceptable). Pack 3-5 pairs of black or white socks (ankle or calf length, no colors or designs).
One pair of broken-in athletic shoes is critical. Eyeglasses are allowed if prescribed; bring the prescription and a sturdy case. If you wear contact lenses, bring eyeglasses as a backup.
Hygiene:
A basic toiletries kit is essential. Include a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorant (non-scented), shaving cream (for males), and a razor. Travel-sized containers are recommended to save space.
Females should bring feminine hygiene products (enough for several days). A small mirror is also permitted.
Other Essentials:
Bring a small, non-electronic wristwatch. Keep it simple, durable, and waterproof. You'll need it for time management.
One black pen and a small notebook are also recommended. For religious items, adhere to Army regulations regarding wear and use.
Prohibited Items:
Leave these items at home. These items are strictly prohibited during BCT.
Electronics:
Cell phones, tablets, laptops, and other electronic devices are not allowed. Cameras and recording devices are also prohibited.
Personal Items:
Do not bring excessive jewelry, expensive items, or large amounts of cash. Weapons of any kind are strictly forbidden.
Food and drinks are not allowed. These will be provided during training.
Clothing and Accessories:
Civilian clothing, other than what's listed above, is not permitted. Do not bring any clothing with offensive or inappropriate designs. Do not bring hats, caps, or bandanas unless authorized for religious purposes.
Arrival and Processing:
Upon arrival, your belongings will be inspected. Non-authorized items will be confiscated and stored (or sent home at your expense). Following the inspection, you'll receive your uniform and begin processing.
Be prepared for a rigorous and demanding training environment. Mental and physical resilience are key.
Next Steps:
Review this packing list carefully before departing for BCT. Contact your recruiter immediately with any questions or concerns. Your recruiter is your primary resource for pre-BCT information.
